Our vision is simple: create spaces where everyone feels welcome to come as they are, explore their creativity without pressure, and experience the joy of making something uniquely theirs.
We opened in May 2021 in a small, un-airconditioned warehouse in Cypress, Texas. It wasn't fancy, but it was enough to bring our idea to life. From the beginning, we wanted to offer something different from typical paint-your-own-pottery studios, a place where adults could unwind, get hands-on with clay, and enjoy a one-time experience without committing to an expensive, weeks-long class.
Early on, we started making our own colored clay so guests could build vibrant pieces without the extra step of underglazing. Using a technique called slam wedging, makers blend and smash together different colors of clay to create gorgeous marbled patterns in every piece. That process inspired our handbuilding workshop, Sip and Smash—a BYOB experience where you can hang out with friends, meet new people, and create something totally your own. Those workshops quickly became our signature, and they sparked the name Smashed Studio.
We also know the pottery wheel can be intimidating, especially in a quick, hour-long "try-it" session. To make it more fun and forgiving, we started designing our own rib tools—now known as our Profile Tools—right here in Houston. These tools add playful profiles to pottery, help disguise off-center clay, and cut a clean foot for a polished finish. Bonus: texture-loving glazes look incredible on those bold lines. After testing countless versions in our studios, we finally landed on designs we love and now offer them online so anyone can enjoy them.
We currently operate Smashed Studios in Houston, Texas and are launching our newest concept, Slow Made in Eau Claire Wisconsin in Fall 2026.
